Confessions of a Bed Side Baptist | Jesus Loves the Plain

Updated: Jul 1, 2020

For April, I was asked by a really great friend, who is truly someone like a sister, Ms. Bernice to participate in a Bible Study for her women’s group, Sisters of Ruth. It’s an opportunity for women of the Most High to share, to grow and to help each other as we journey in our faith. So, of course, I said, “Absolutely!” It’s about Jesus and I love any reason to talk about the intimacy of my Savior!

Originally who I intended or wanted to tall about was Moses’s wife. Then that changed. Some would consider the change as weird but I consider it normally intended. The Lord wanted to talk about someone different.

I was simply cleaning out and organizing my room last week. I find it interesting that as I was clearing out my room, making more room for new clothes and new heels... that I had an encounter with Holy Spirit. Now, that’s not to spook anyone. It’s a legit thing. The best thing, too. There was a movement throughout my entire home and He met me in my bedroom. (Things go down in the bedroom. Like these eyelids because I can hardly keep them open right now.)

Particularly, last Friday (4/3), I was interchangeably listening to sermons and worship music. Alabaster Box Medley by David & Nicole Binion was playing while assembling a clothes rack. (Not a coincide.) Literally... the Lord announced who He wanted to talk about for the Bible Study through simply listening to the lyrics of the song.

Personally, I’m embarking my “meadow” journey and this year’s theme is Love 2.0. Last year, it was love, too, but I know that last year served as the foundation for the edifice in which He is building me to become.

Come second week of February 2019, I read the entirety of a book in the Bible that isn’t really encouraged to read with Christians. It’s the book titled, Song of Solomon or Song of Songs. Probably because sex is a mention. Yeah, I said it. Sex. Sex. Sex. Sex. It’s how we got here...duh. Yes, it’s the written by the wisest king. The son of King David.

It’s supported by history. And y’all say y’all don’t believe the Bible because it was written by man but textbooks were, too. But I digress...

Anyways, this particular book is constantly debated about whether it’s meant to be taken typically, dramatically, mythologically-cultic, dreamy, literally or allegorically. To be honest, it’s way too many opinions and not enough Spirited statements.

I don’t know a lot but I do know this book wasn’t meant for one set significance. My Father doesn’t do well with limitations of how He can move. There’s revelation for the specified reader to receive from what JESUS and not human wants to convey and portray through this intimate song. It’s a journey worth venturing.

Last blog, I titled it, “Dangerously In Love” to discuss and define the definition of intimacy through a special moment with Jesus. So it’s helping me speak about what we’re going to talk about today: Jesus Loves the Plain.

The focus for today is a character from Song of Solomon/Song of Songs (SoS for abbreviation) is the woman subject. It’s no coincidence the woman subject has or is addressed by different names. I love to address her as the Shulamite woman. I have heard others call her the Shunammite woman. Some say the beloved or the woman. Bible scholars believe it is Abishag (Ab-bee-shaw) who is the woman King Solomon fell in love with.

Interesting she has different names just like the Bride of Christ, the church, Body of Christ... makes me know the Lord truly made us in the image of Him with the different names to not be restricted to one thing and/or title... But many things and/or titles. Hence, the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit all being one but different titles... I mean you’re sibling, seed and somebody.

Moving forward...

Etymology is the study of the origin of words and the way in which their meanings have changed throughout history and the historical development of its meaning. It is also imperative to look up definitions, too. This will become imperative to experience and reach new depths, heights and lengths in your walk of life AND faith. (Believer in Jesus or not. It’s necessary.) You learn more about yourself and Jesus.

Shunamite derives from the Hebrew words shunem/shunam which means, “double resting place” which is to be said is beside the birthplace of Abishag.

Shulamite derives from the Hebrew word shulam which means, “peace, completeness (in numbers), safety, soundness (in body), welfare, health, prosperity, quietness, tranquility, contentment, friendship, of human relationships, with God, especially in covenant relationship.”

The suffix -ite helps form names denoting natives of an origin or their origin. Prepositions like of or from help to determine this.

The woman in SoS is addressed as a woman of or from the following: a double resting place, peace, completeness, safety, soundness (in heart, mind, soul and Spirit), welfare, health, prosperity, quietness, tranquility, contentment, friendship, of human relationships, with God, especially in covenant relationship. This week is main week where the Christian community celebrates a new covenant being offered.

She is the main speaker. She is the one embarking a journey paired with someone seeking covenant. She is the one who has been initially pursued and she in return pursues.

(Note for Ladies: she is pursued then in return she pursues. Don’t let these men fool you. Pursue in return. If he ain’t made the first move... he ain’t worthy to be romanced by you. Leave it to Jesus. Also, you can let the guy know you peep game. Men need help. That’s why God made Eve for Adam.)

(Note for the Men: if you will treat her like representation of Jesus in this book, pursue her. Let her be aware she’s being pursued. Use your grown man words. She doesn’t read minds. But if she in return does not pursue you... Leave her alone. She doesn’t want you.)

Okay! Moving forward!

The focus is primarily SoS 2:1-2 TPT. It is highly recommended to listen to the YouTube link to gain further insight. It will not all be written in this blog.

Jesus Loves the Plain

  1. A shulamite has discussions with Jesus. They acknowledge Him. After this, there will naturally be an exchange of dialogue that’ll result you in knowing your identity in Him despite what you think about yourself or what others think about you. (SoS 1:2)

  2. Announce who you are in Christ to Christ, to yourself an others. (SoS 2:1 TPT, first sentence.) Keyword is Sharon.

  3. Identify His covering over your position no matter where you are in life (physiologically or literally). (SoS 2:1 TPT, second sentence)

  4. Accept what JESUS says about YOU! (SoS 2:2 TPT, first sentence).

  5. He. Sees. You. (SoS 2:2 TPT, second sentence). (For more, cause there’s more... you need the verbal message!)

  6. He knows the circumstances. He knows the sin. (SoS 2:2 TPT, third sentence, part 1). One thousand nine hundred eighty-seven years ago He knew you’d need Him as you always did. (Verbal message)

  7. He’ll still see you as worthy of pursuit and to die for! Literally! (SoS 2:2 TPT, third sentence, part 2).

  8. At this point... I will have to share this verbal message on IGTV or my YouTube channel.

It’s just way too much to type!

But I will leave you with a thought I use to conclude...

Are you going to embrace your origin of what Jesus intended or move away from the necessary meeting place?

Until next time.

Lovingly,

Ebony M. Acton 🌸
